How to read a continuing care monitoring record

The parts of a record

The visit

The date of the monitoring visit and the type of standard it covered (for example accommodation or health service).

The findings

Each finding of non-compliance, with the specific standard cited, a plain-language description of what was found, and its current status. Where a deadline was set, the record shows the date the home was required to act by.

The status

Whether the finding is open (issued, in progress or ongoing) or addressed (rectified, resolved or no longer relevant).

What you will and will not find

Residents are not named. The home is named. The records exist because Alberta publishes the results of continuing care monitoring.

Reading it in context

A single finding is a snapshot. To weigh it, look at the home’s record over time and beside the Alberta average, both shown on every home page. Unfamiliar terms are explained in the glossary.

Each home page links the underlying public record on Alberta’s Standards and Licensing portal, which is the authoritative source.
